Levon Kendall
A Vancouverite born and raised, Levon Kendall has done much for the image of athletes in British Columbia as well as in Canada. Born on July 4, 1984, at the age of 15, Levon was the goalkeeper for the Vancouver International Selects team which won a silver medal in the Under-15 soccer nationals in 1998. Attending Kitsilano Secondary, this 6'10" gentle giant led his team to three back-to-back-to-back (99/00, 00/01, 01/02) provincial championships. He averaged 23.2 points, 13 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game as a senior. These accomplishments led to such decorations as the Vancouver Sun and Province Newspapers preseason first-team selection, MVP of the British Columbia Summer Games, and British Columbia Athlete of the Year in 2002.
Moving on to bigger things, Levon received a full scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his major in Anthropology and a minor in French. Levon played for the NCAA Div-I Pittsburgh Panthers. During his tenure on the team, Levon moved his way up the ladder from red shirt to one of the leaders and starters of the team, won a Big East Conference Championship, and made it twice to the Sweet-16 of the NCAA National Basketball Tournament
On the international stage, Levon has played for Team Canada Basketball program for seven years (5 Jr. and 2 Sr.). The biggest imprint in the world of basketball he has made was at the FIBA World Basketball Championships in 2005. Against a well equipped Team USA (JJ Reddick, Allen Ray, and Rudy Gay), Levon had a 40 point 12 rebound outburst en route to defeating Team USA in overtime. This knocked out Team USA for any kind of medal contention and helped Canada win a Bronze medal, the first medal in Canada Basketball history. He was elected to the All-Tournament team. Following his performance, he was promoted to the Canadian Senior National Team. In the summer of 2008, Levon scored a double-double against the USA Dream Team led by Kobe Bryant and company. He now plays in Athens for the Panionios Panthers in the A1 Greece League.
An eclectic individual, Levon's interest include the drums, hiking, soccer, playing piano, cliff diving, meditation, racing mountain bikes, white water rafting and snowboarding. His interests and accomplishments show he is the quintessence of the Vancouver and West Coast spirit, as well as the Hardihood soul.
